Chief of Communication and Community Engagement, Early Learning Coalition of Orange County
Give a brief explanation of your job.
I am the Chief of Communications and Community Engagement for the Early Learning Coalition of Orange County. We are a non-profit organization that helps more than 31,000 children and families find affordable, quality child care. We contract with more than 500 child care centers to make sure Orange County children are learning and thriving. We also help with child care financial assistance for families that qualify based on household income.
How long have you been a member of FPRA and why did you join?
I have been going to FPRA meetings and events since 2020. I started in Volusia County, and I recently joined the Orlando chapter. I am very excited to connect with some of the best in the communications field. FPRA allows public relations teams to connect and learn from each other and grow. I’m thrilled to be a part of this amazing group of professionals.
What has been your favorite FPRA event or experience so far?
I remember a few guest speakers that were just phenomenal. One year, the head of marketing for Yeti spoke to us about storytelling and marketing. Another guest speaker discussed crisis communications, and some lessons learned. I can’t wait to see what amazing events Jose Dieppa has planned for us this year.
Tell us about an exciting achievement (personal or professional).
I am a proud mom of two teenage boys. My husband and I have been married for almost 22 years. I also have a cute doggie named Bentley. I was a television reporter for more than 20 years, and have now been in the PR world for 5 years. In the past few years, I received 8 awards from the National School Public Relations Association. In my television days I earned an Associated Press Award and was nominated for an Emmy.
What was your first job?
I was a lifeguard while in high school and it was so much fun! My first job out of college was at a television station in Rockford, Illinois. I learned a lot, especially how to manage tight deadlines and multitasking.
What’s one fun fact about you?
I love reading. In fact, I regularly max out on my free downloads from the local library system. I’ve read quite a few Historical Fiction and Thrillers lately, and I am always looking for recommendations.
