February President’s PRoclaimer Message
By Juliette Gebken-Mayi, APR
Hi Orlando communicators,
What a busy year it has been! Oh, and it’s only February!
This month and looking ahead, we have a variety of opportunities to learn, connect and grow that your local Orlando chapter Board, and State Board, have been working on so we’ll get right to it.
Starting with Black History Month, an opportunity to honor the Black communicators and storytellers who have strengthened our profession and expanded our understanding of the world. Their voices continue to shape public dialogue and elevate the standards of our industry. Follow @FPRA_State, as we’ll highlight members from around the state throughout the month.
Registration closes today for our February program, “Crisis Communications Masterclass” by Joel Staley. Hope to see you at the Orlando Science Center on Thursday, February 19!
Spring cleaning in February? Why not? We’re excited to kick off a professional clothing drive to help students get ready to shine during interviews. This new initiative will benefit Quotes members and UCF students. We need all sizes, colors and both, male and female options so if you have gently used items that “don’t spark joy” for you anymore bring them over!
St Valentine’s has come and gone, but you can still show a little love to your PR friends and colleagues. Think about who gets you out of trouble when needed, or who do you call when you need a vent session? Yeah, they deserve a little love! A $10 donation will get a cutesy card mailed to them and bonus points for you for keeping them in mind. Plus, it’s all to help fund scholarships and more initiatives from the FPRA Education Foundation.
Looking ahead, on March 11 we’ll celebrate Women’s History Month with an amazing panel of PR & Communications leaders, featuring panelists from Orlando Magic, Rollins College, City of Orlando and more. It’s going to be a great discussion that you can’t miss!
Lastly, we’re still looking for PR & Communications pros who can provide their expertise pro bono for a day to local nonprofits at PR Paid Forward. Hosted in partnership with PRSA and scheduled for April 24, this is one of our favorite events to bring our communities together. Volunteer signups close on Friday, February 20.
Have an idea for a future program, a general suggestion or just want to chat? Send me a note at juliette@jgmpublicrelations.com, would love to hear from you.
