Member PRofile: Ken Storey

Title and company: Communications Specialist, East Central Florida Regional Planning Council

Give a brief explanation of your job: I’m a one-person team responsible for all internal and external communications of the ECFRPC. My job balances public communications and many office duties. A crucial part of my role is to ensure that the ECFRPC is engaged in conversations and projects across the region where our unique regional perspective can be beneficial. I work to ensure that the regional vision, as laid out by our council of local senior-level elected officials, is realized.

How long have you been a member of FPRA and why did you join? I joined in mid-2024 after attending a few FRPA events. I joined because I was looking for a professional PR group in town to join, and I found I already knew some members and trusted their recommendation to join this group.

What has been your favorite FPRA event or experience so far? The annual Media Mashup is a highlight for me. It was what first introduced me to FRPA. I’ve attended it for the past two years and found it to be one of the best for networking and getting oriented with the latest tools and techniques for success in the industry.

Tell us about an exciting achievement (personal or professional): For me, it was the opportunity to go back to school and shift my career trajectory to what I’m doing now. I’m now in my dream job, working with others who geek out to the same things as I do. I’m so grateful for now being able to work in an industry that always fascinated me.

What was your first job? In high school, I cleaned residential job sites and worked part-time at Barnie’s Coffee in the Lake Square Mall. Customer service and physical labor taught me a lot, but I’m happy to now have a mostly indoor office job.

What's one fun fact about you? I have a pet adult yellow-bellied slider turtle, Chan Chan, who loves watching TV and exploring the living room.
