February President’s PRoclaimer Message

By Roy Reid, APR, CPRC

It’s February and there is so much to celebrate this month!

First, we have Black History Month. This is an opportunity to celebrate the significant contributions to society made by Black Americans and our ongoing efforts to better connect, understand and support one another in this endeavor called life.

Next, we have Valentine’s Day and for FPRA that means showing love to each other. For the month there is a campaign to send a valentine to other members of the organization. The “Show a Colleague Some Love” campaign has generated more than $42,000 to support education and professional development programs since 2020 and has positively impacted the lives and careers of our students and professionals. Our fundraising goal is $12,000 this year, and we need your help. Please consider sending a greeting to your FPRA colleagues who have made a difference in your career.

We also have a spectacular program with Alayna Curry from Space Florida this month to share how Florida is building a more robust economy through the commercial space industry. As a child of the early NASA space program and growing up in Orlando, it’s exciting to see how the commercial space program is transforming the economic future of our state.

Next month, we have the Orlando Pride coming in to talk about the communication challenges, opportunities and strategies for their championship season. I look forward to celebrating our soccer world champions with you in March. We’ll share more on that soon!

Check out all the other events coming up including our Spring Social with UCF Quotes, PR Paid Forward in April, Media Mashup event in June (both of those in partnership with PRSA) and the accreditation workshops available to you.

We can also celebrate the fact that the Orlando Area Chapter is once again the largest FPRA chapter. Thank you to each of you for being a part of the magic tapestry of talent and diversity that is Orlando. Your board of directors have a slogan we’ve adopted for this year, “Orlando Yeah!” to celebrate our wonderful community.

Keep an eye out for our upcoming membership survey. We need to get your input on what we are doing to bring value and how we can bring even more value to you.
