Title and company: I recently joined the Office of Communications for Seminole County as a Public Communications Specialist.
Give a brief explanation of your job: As the Public Communications Specialist for Seminole County, I get to work on a wide range of projects. Every day is different, which I love. One day I’m sharing information about mosquito control or water conservation, and the next I’m helping residents understand a new County program. I help disseminate information across all platforms, including newsletters, social media, events, and promotional materials such as brochures and flyers. This includes both urgent updates and long-format communications.
How long have you been a member of FPRA and why did you join? I am a new FPRA member. I joined to learn from other experienced communication professionals across the state.
What has been your favorite FPRA event or experience so far? I really enjoyed the PR & Comms Summit. It was nice to meet communications professionals from near and far and learn about their work. The speakers were engaging, and the experience was motivating for me as someone new to the field.
Tell us about an exciting achievement (personal or professional): An exciting achievement for me was taking a leap into a new career path after 15 years in the television news industry. I’m proud of myself for taking that chance, and I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given in such a short time.
What was your first job? My first job was as a call taker for an online flower delivery service for florists across the country. That job turned me into more of a “phone” person than an email person. I also learned a lot about flowers, and I still remember some random facts all these years later.
What's one fun fact about you? I’ve broken my arm four times and had a cast seven! Luckily, I knocked all those injuries out early in life and have been pretty much accident free since (knock on wood).
